Redwood Family Magic

Share in four days of Reclaiming style, Earth-based spirituality, magic, and community!

Redwood Magic camp, which sprang out of Witchkets in the Woods family camp in 2013, brings together 60 people of all ages. Join us in the redwoods at Mendocino Woodlands as we weave a web that crosses the generations. Redwood Magic is a do-it-ourselves family camp. During our time at camp, all of us will be responsible for creating a vibrant, magical experience!

This is a community retreat, not a festival or a drop-in camp. We ask that people plan to attend the entire event (unless advance arrangements are made) and be committed to creating camp culture.

Our camp is open to families and their invited guests. Reclaiming is an inclusive tradition, and includes all sorts of families. Camp is held at the Mendocino Woodlands, e a state park operated by a local nonprofit. The site is located just far enough inland from the town of Mendocino to avoid coastal fog. The camp is set among a mature Redwood/Douglas Fir forest, creating a beautiful, peaceful setting. A small creek runs alongside the camp. There is a swimming hole not too far off, although water level can be low in August.

The campsite has cloth A-frame cabins with cots and foam mattresses. Camping is also an option - we will have some areas designated for tents. Your camp fee includes meals from dinner Sunday to breakfast Thursday. All meals include vegetarian offerings. Some include meat dishes as well. We will also offer options for vegan and/or gluten-free campers by request (on your reg form or contact us by July 1). The park is not designated wheelchair accessible. However, the park may have some accessible features, such as parking areas, restrooms, and routes of travel, that meet some of the current accessibility guidelines. The camp is rustic dirt paths and wooden bridges and is difficult terrain for wheelchairs (although it has been done). Most of the bathroom blocks are up slopes, which can be difficult if you have mobility problems. People have gotten around with walking sticks and crutches at past camps. We will do our best to support your needs. Please notify us by June 30 if you have special needs so we can discuss them with you. We will do our best to accommodate special needs. We also expect you to be the initiator and take responsibility for yourself and getting the support you need.

For this camp truly to be "redwood magic," we need two more things. Luckily, the redwoods are already there and waiting for us! The other thing we need is the magic. We will co-create what happens at this camp. There could be morning paths, workshops, swimming, crafts, rituals, singing and drumming, a talent show, a dessert buffet - maybe even some sleep! Each of us will bring offerings, skills, and hopefully an open heart and mind. We'll invite along a few Reclaiming teachers to help anchor ritual and perhaps paths, but each of us can make offerings during the course of camp. We'll share ideas on our yahoogroup as camp draws closer.

Redwood Magic aims to be an affordable, do-it-ourselves family camp. By creating the "magic" of the camp together, we can keep costs low. In addition, we have a some partial work-exchange tasks.Your payment includes accommodations (A-frame tent-cabins or your own tent), meals from Sunday dinner to Thursday breakfast, and all camp activities. The only other expenses are travel and the optional Pagan Silent Auction and Raffle (fundraisers for your camp!)
